I had a really great, engaging, active conversation with some really smart, focused women at the Mums Studio today. My job was to facilitate the questions, answer them as best I could and get other people to give me their opinions on my suggestions, opinions and experience. And no one held back. It was great. We were all agreeing and disagreeing in equal measure, and it got me to thinking that there’s all sorts of stuff that people think are social media rules, when in fact, there’s no one size fits all solution at all.
Is Facebook or twitter better if you’ve only got the time to commit to one of them?
Is it ok to automatically push your content from twitter onto facebook and vice versa?
What should I do if my husband tells me off for being active in social media so much?
What if I have no interest in social media whatsoever? Do I really have to get into it?
Is there any value to LinkedIn?
It is ok to have www.wordpress.cambridgemummy.com as a url?
How do I get started on twitter?
Is it OK to use an auto DM someone when they start to follow you?
What is Klout? Does it matter?
If I tweet from Hootsuite, do you assume that it means it’s always scheduled? Do you engage when you see hootsuite generated content?
How long should a blog be?
What should be in a corporate blog – should is a corporate blog? What does it mean for people with small businesses? or women running businesses that relate to families, pregnancy and/or babies?
Are there any absolute rules in social media?
How many time a week do I need to blog?
So, can you all pick one of these things and give me your opinion on it please? I’d love to hear your thoughts and get a conversation going about this. Let the conversation begin. And the first ten to comment will get a very small something from me to say thank you for starting us off :) What are your social media rules? Do you even have any?
PS. And if you can give an example of why you think something should or should not be done, even better :)
