Hola! What a cool week it’s been – and it’s only Thursday…. The sun is shining and we’re enjoying it! We’ve got lots of exciting projects happening – some are just starting, some are coming to conclusion and others are up and running. I wanted to share for a moment, some things that have given us cause to smile, ponder or just pull funny faces this week.
I had a really interesting Skype call with Zoe Richards – we talked about the fact that it’s ok for me and us as a team to earn money doing work that we love – that if we’re honest, doesn’t feel like work. In fact, this is so much so, that we’ve been a bit unprofessional in some respects – we’ve over serviced – sometimes by a lot, because we’re so into our work. We’re loving the results clients are getting. So it’s gotten us and our clients a bit muddled and led to a couple of awkward conversations along the lines of “You know all that Pinterest traffic that came last month, well it’s not come this month” – and us explaining that we were testing out the potential of it, as a source of traffic because we frankly fancied it. That’s not very professional of us, and it causes confusion when it doesn’t happen month on month. So we’ve to address that and we will be doing going forwards. It wasn’t a sales ploy on our part either – we just wanted to see if it worked, and it did, so now we need to do something about it!
A meeting on Monday, gave me cause to also do some thinking about how much time I want to spend on site with clients. I think someone was angling for me to be onsite with them for a good couple of days a week, because they like having me around. I wasn’t sure if I wanted that and I’ve come away to think about it. I don’t know if it’s because I like my space here – I can listen to Spotify without offending anyone, don’t need to make myself presentable in a conformist sense and can allow myself to have spurts of frenetic output and creativity without worrying about feeling the usual measures of presenteeism. (That’s a word, right?) It’s definitely given me lots to think about – not least in terms of how much I appreciate my workspace and why it’s so useful as a place to work from.
And finally, if you follow me personally on instagram, you’ll have seen the flowers that the lovely team at Fundamentally Children gave us yesterday. You’ll also see that I’m reading Reinventing Organisations and giving myself lots to think about with it! I totally and utterly encourage you to read it. As you’ll all know, I’m an avid reader of Buffer’s blogs on culture, development and the evolution of businesses and how they serve their communities – I love learning from them and am working in a way that aspires to have our own team use as many of their learnings as possible. So here’s a book by Frederic Laloux that is inspiring them and me, to make big changes.
So that’s that for today. I’m off to post a Mother’s Day card, birthday card and ‘sorry this is late’ birthday card!
Hope you get to enjoy some of the sunshine today – how much better does the world look bathed in sunshine? !!!
