<adopts singing voice> “Here are a few of our favourite things!” Sorry, couldn’t resist. We’re always being asked about what we use, what we buy, which tech we like and how we decide on what kit to utilise. So here, is a page full of those things. Wherever possible, we’ve got an affiliate link associated with them – the money we get will go towards buying cool quotes for the office walls, because we could do with some new ones. Liz keeps printing things out and it’s not quite the same as a quote in a frame! So, without further ado, here are some of the things we use, love and think you could benefit from using as well….
We’ll start with stationery. Liz asks us, during our first interview, what our favourite piece of stationery is. She’s very keen on stationery…
The 2015 Moleskine Pocket Diary Weekly Horizontal Hard is a small diary, with the week to view. It works really well because it’s small bag sized and lasts the full year of being thrown in and out of bags, because it’s got a hard back cover. Totally recommend it.
If you want something bigger, the 2015 Moleskine Red Large Weekly Notebook 12 Month Hard is good – around A5 in size and with a week to view on the left hand page and a lined, blank page opposite, for your notes and reminders for that week. Which do you prefer? Week to view, or week on one page?
This has been the best discovery we’ve made for a long time! The Belkin Pro Series USB Extension Cable 3m is the best way ever, to plug in your ipad or phone and not have it on the floor whilst charging. You can plug this in, use the extension and voila, you can still have your tech kit on your desk, whilst it is charging. So small, so cheap and so revolutionary. Love it.
The Grifiti Nootle iPad AIR Flexible Stand: iPad Air Tripod Mount, Aluminum Adjustable Music/Light Tripod Stand, and Nootle Mini Ball Head Perfect for Coaches, Teachers, Video, Photography, Music, Presentions, Displays, Tradeshows, Home, and Office Use is revolutionary. It enables you to use your ipad – and you can buy one for your phone as well, as a camera, that you angle, making it stable. You can use it wherever you want, however you want – to video others, or yourself. It’s also fine to use as an aid for taking photos, but we use it for video recording.
And finally, but by no means least, we’ve stuck with Avery for our labels. Because nothing else will really do. It’s that phrase – you’ve tried the rest, now try the best! Or at least, that’s how it feels to us. Avery QuickPEEL Addressing Labels L7163-100 is forever imprinted on our brains!
Now we’re onto books. There’s so many that come recommended, but these are the ones that circulate around the team repeatedly. Which will you choose to read first? There’s Yes! 50 Secrets from the Science of Persuasion , the famous How to Win Friends and Influence Peopleand the brilliant case study Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose. The Authority Mindset: Proven Principles For Establishing Yourself as an Expert in Any Industry was interesting – we didn’t agree with all of it, but it certainly sparked lots of creative thinking for us whilst Telling the Story: The Heart and Soul of Successful Leadership was interesting – an American author looking at how CEO’s tell stories to their teams…
Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World feels like a mix of Gary’s strong opinion and case studies. It is interesting, but wasn’t as well put together as it could be. It felt like Gary’s voice is in there, but we think a fair bit was written by others for him. Get Rich, Lucky Bitch!: Release Your Money Blocks and Live a First Class Life couldn’t be any different. Denise Duffield Thomas is there, so there, in her book, that you can really hear her voice in her writing. It might be a bit woo woo for your tastes, but it certainly helps us to focus on what’s important – how richness isn’t about money and abundance doesn’t mean have lots of ‘stuff’. Her first book, Lucky Bitch: A Guide for Exceptional Women to Create Outrageous Success , is her telling a brilliant story. You’ll enjoy that one!
I think that’s us for now. We’ve still to add in our software – but we’ll update that another day. This is us, just getting started with everything.
